I’ve just found out that any schmuck can publish a Kindle book. And I thought “OMG! I’m a schmuck! I should totally do that!”
My tentative idea is to put some F/m erotica out there, because I am a self-proclaimed genius at writing about BDSM and teh secks (I have written actual erotic fiction before, and it is more tightly written and thoroughly proofread than my sexy posts here).
Preliminary research indicates that Kindle does allow erotica (their “unacceptable” list was just stuff like colouring books that would be kinda pointless to do digitally). It’s also apparent that I can publish under a pen name* – which means, among other things, that I can market my Kindle writing here on my blog.
So, ummmm…if I wrote sexy Kindle stories, would you buy them?
Also, what should my pen name be? I’d want something that sounded like an actual feasible name but had puns or symbolism in it.
Or maybe I should just publish as perversecowgirl so the several people who Google that name every day will find my Kindle writings as well as this blog.
I am such a giant fuckin’ horndog lately, and fantasizing constantly…I also have a lot of free time (and barely an income!) since the art schools have closed for the summer…kind of seems like synchronicity. Maybe.

*Although I worry that my actual name will somehow still get shared…like on an electronic receipt after someone buys a book/story…anyone know? I don’t even own a Kindle so I have no fucking idea at all how this works.

I actually have published some stuff through the Kindle Store, so I’m embarrassed to admit I’m not 100% sure that there’s no obscure option that lets buyers see your name, though I’m pretty sure there isn’t, and it doesn’t appear in some prominent place.
If you don’t have a Kindle, I recommend you pick up Kindle for PC (or Kindle for Mac, if appropriate) so you can look over your books and make sure all the formatting is correct before uploading them. The way various conversion programs (I use Calibre and MobiPocket Creator, and I’d never trust the previewer built-in to the publishing interface, nor trust it to properly convert anything that isn’t already in a Kindle-compatible format) interpret things isn’t always obvious.
It would not have occurred to me to download a virtual Kindle thingie to check formatting (I am so very clueless about how this all works…). Thanks for the inside information. 🙂
Interestingly, I love reading kinky stuff and sexytimes on blogs that I know contain near-truth i.e. real people’s real lifes. It’s almost like watching a quality reality show (which does not exist on TV because of the word “quality”). If the blog ONLY had sexy stuff I probably would not read it for the sexuality _per se_ – the key is somehow having all the personal stuff like details of the mess in the apartment, the financial issues, the relationship developments, then there is the philosophical parts that I love, about feminism and the like – wow, real person’s real thoughts! – and also the psyhcological digging into the family past and divorce and marriage. It is all these together and the excellent writing style that does it for me.
I am sure there are many who read it for the sexything, but I personally would buy a similar, first person diary-like writing where people can think, oh wow, this is a true story. Remember Girl with a One-Track-Mind: the sneaky peak into someone’s real personal world in itself can be more erotic (hmm am I a Voyeur?….) than some fictional sex between fictional characters. I love literature and I am an avid reader but I never read erotic fiction. The last thing I remember was Apollinaire’s The Eleven Thousand Rods when I was like 17.
I think you could probably sell lots of it – just that the blogs’ readers may not necessarily be the target audience?

I totally get that. I’m the same way…kind of a voyeur. 😀 And like you, I wish reality television shows actually depicted reality instead of throwing people together in a very weird and artificial situation and filming the results.

I have reservations about selling a book of true sex stories for two reasons. 1) I kind of want the option of being able to reveal myself as the author someday – and if the stories were true I’d feel a lot more exposed than if they were made up (people would be…picturing me doing the things. Eeek.) and 2) I really want to contribute F/m erotica to the world because I feel like there’s not enough of it (not enough good, female-written stuff, anyway) – but I have very few real-life experiences to tell.

This seems feasible. Although, it’s not necessarily either/or – I’m sure there are people who like reading true stories and made-up ones.

They don’t just want westerns and overdone cinderella stories and drama anymore. They put out a lot of kindle short stories and books every month.
